At ReelSurfer, we want online video to be by the fans, for the fans, so we’ve been hard at work on some cool user-centric features we’re releasing today. Here’s the scoop:
Voting – Discover Great Content
There’s a ton of great content on ReelSurfer, ranging from music mashups to the latest news on Reuters’ profile to mandatory cute animal clips. And now, there’s a great way to discover this awesome content. We’ve introduced a simple “thumbs-up” and “thumbs-down” voting system to bring the best clips to the top.
One of the most popular things on ReelSurfer has been the never-ending Trending Clips reel on our homepage. These bite-sized clips are a great way to spend a couple minutes to a few hours watching the best video content on the web, just 30 seconds or less at a time. With the new voting system, YOUR clips can be featured on the homepage too, or on the trending clips in each of our categories, like Music, Lifestyle/Fashion, or News. Start cutting clips, making reels and become internet-famous today!
Social, Customizable Profiles
In today’s update, we’re also giving you the ability to really customize your profile and make it your own. For starters, profile links now work with your username, like Far East Movement’s profile at http://reelsurfer.com/user/reels/fmonyourdial. So be sure to sign up for an account (click the Sign In button on the upper right) and claim your username today! We’ll also show your profile picture if you login using Facebook.
We’ve also got some goodies in store for our more advanced users. For instance, some of our users like TEDxTeen have a ton of reels on their profile, so we’ve add the ability to easily drag and drop your reels to rearrange them (see the screenshot above).
And these features are just the start. We’ve got a lot of cool ideas in the pipeline, like giving you points for making reels and clips that you can redeem for swag or even the chance to meet the people in your clips. Have an idea? Send it to us at info@reelsurfer.com!
Beta API
We’re continually honored and amazed by the creative ways people have been using ReelSurfer. Heck, even Martin Lawrence used ReelSurfer to share some throwbacks! ReelSurfer is growing in ways we never imagined, and we want to let people build on top of ReelSurfer as much as possible. In this vein, we’re pleased to release a beta API for embedding clips onto your own site or app. Check it out at: http://code.reelsurfer.com/trac/wiki/PublicApi

Excellent stuff!
